Accomplishments

Just a Few of My Accomplishments…

-Won state and federal grants for full service community schools

-Advocated and secured millions of dollars in overdue capital improvements to schools on the Northside

-Supported the inclusion of Ethnic Studies graduation requirement

-Elected by my colleagues for board leadership roles in every year of my first term (vice-chair and treasurer/finance committee chair)

-Held regular business hours prior to the pandemic

-Regularly visited all our schools before and after being elected to the board. The pandemic hasn’t stopped my involvement in our schools. I attend as many virtual events as I can and attend virtual parent groups and committees

-Continue to represent my community by sitting on two school based site councils in our district

-Strengthened feeder pathway schools in our district

-Expanded world language pathway schools throughout the district.

-Made it possible for middle school student athletes to leave class a little early at the end of the school day to practice with their high school teammates

-Expanded 3 School for our youngest learners to support early learning opportunities

-Courageously voted for equity voting Yes on the Comprehensive District Design to ensure MPS will provide a holistic education in every corner of the city.  All students deserve experiences and opportunities to elevate their academic progress.

-Recently voted to represent Minneapolis & St Paul Public Schools on the Minnesota School Board Association

-One of many parents that fought to keep Loring Elementary open.

-Advocated for access to swimming on the Northside after losing many young lives due to drownings in city lakes. Olson Pool is now open to the public and I’m still advocating for swimming lessons for the students at all our schools

-Advocated and supported Olson Middle school becoming an IB School (International Baccalaureate School) because Olson Middle School is a pathway into Henry High School. Olson is currently going through the process of becoming an IB school.

-Advocated to reopen Franklin Middle

-Fought to bring back Middle School Athletics

-Supported Lucy Laney when the school was lobbying for a co-teaching model for their school which they did receive and the school has seen success.

-Advocated for building and maintenance improvements in several schools across the district.
